And Alienbear's necklace just leaves me in awe. The corsage i bought ages ago and never had anything to wear with it - now I do. Hope you enjoy this look as much as I do :D

Debug Permissions: permissions for power users

Ever wanted to see more than the basic Modify/Copy/Transfer permissions? Wonder what specific "permissions groups" (yourself, next owner, group-owned, everybody, etc.) can do with an object?

Wonder no more, there's a special Debug Permissions tool you can activate from within the Advanced menu. And like other Advanced menu features, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND WE DON'T OFFICIALLY SUPPORT IT. So don't cry if it breaks one day or is altogether superseded by something awesomer. However, I've been using Debug Permissions for several years and I know it's helped many a merchant figure out what happens to an object if someone buys it.

Burning Life 2009!

If there is anything that you should check out this week, Burning Life is one of them! I took a trip to see a few of these creations after a friend of mine told me how awesome it was, and I was incredibly surprised. It is worth the wait to rez such amazing creations.

It is virtually impossible for me to explain how impressed I was with the builds presented there, I was in fact jealous that I couldn't partake in this super-effin-awesome building adventure...but we always have next year. (Sly-Grin)

Builds will stay up until November 1st, 2009....so GO QUICK!

Here are a few snapshots from Burning Life sent to me from: Bane ...

Setting a Scripted Agent Status

When we talked in this previous blog post, about the use of bots, or scripted agents as we call them, we got the feedback that sometimes there are legitimate reasons to have multiple scripted agents on the same parcel, other than just to unfairly increase traffic scores. As we have deemed the gaming of traffic to be a violation, this leaves some landowners in a difficult position.

Later today we are adding the ability for you to tell us that that an account is being used as a scripted agent (bot) through the Accounts page on the website. It couldn't be simpler to use; if you have accounts that are scripted agents then log into the

[QUICKTIP] Searching the Knowledge Base and Wiki in-Viewer

Now that Second Life's official help documentation, the Knowledge Base, is on the Wiki as reported here, you can search the KB when you're using the Second Life Viewer. This has been a feature for quite some time but it always needs more publicity, so here goes:

Click the Search button. In the All tab, change the Any Category dropdown to Wiki. Type in a query and click the Search button within the Search window.

As shown in this video! This search is Google-powered, so it's cool to be really specific about your keywords. Alas, video tutorials and other Flash content don't display yet.

How to easily link to content when posting on our blogs & forums

Say you're replying to a blogs.secondlife.com discussion thread and you want to link to a blog post you recently saw. Rather than manually searching for it, right-clicking to copy the link, and blahblahblah — there are TWO TABS in the Insert Link window that will make your life much easier. Watch this speedy screencast to learn how they work:

Text instructions:

In a text editor, click the Insert Link button on the toolbar. Click the All Content or Browse History tab. Use the controls to look for the content you want to link to. Click the radio button to the left of ...

Sell CONTENTS so customers don’t have to unbox your goods!

It's nice to get gift-wrapped presents, BUT there are many times when selling items in a box in Second Life is unnecessary! It can cause customers problems because many stores don't have a place to rez the box and unpack it, and a big pain point for new Residents is that they confuse the box with the item, and wear it — leading to "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS ON MY RIGHT HAND?!" embarrassment (used to be "box on head syndrome", but that changed awhile ago).

As an old SL joke goes, "STOP TO SELL STUFF IN A BOX!" You can sell items directly from wall display-to-inventory so that when someone buys it, it'll

Imprudence viewer

I have been meaning to do a post about Imprudence almost since it was released. I have been blogging about it here and there but haven’t done a post solely about it yet. I have blog previously about the flexible sculpties and the worn tab but I haven’t blog about all of the new features they added. First of all, I am flattered they’ve included my WindLight presets in the viewer. Like most viewers, it recognized my IP address and presented the viewer in Portuguese. You can start by downloading it in the Imprudence blog and you can read the Imprudence Manifesto here. SL-ImprudenceViewer002 The profiles were ...

The Art of Defeat

- Cue Music Carl Orff – Carmina Burana (my favorite battle music of many movies including my personal favorite Excalibur).  My thanks to Michel Morane for suggesting I explain this in my blog. Battle in the streets of Lost Angels Battle in the streets of Lost Angels Everyone likes to win.  Victory is savored by all while defeat is desired by none.  What do you do when you are defeated and it is the other player’s turn to celebrate victory at your expense?  Just as victory can be played with much satisfactions, a defeat that is well planned and executed will result ...

Demons Left to Right: Fran, Orchid, Avian, Sakura, Sindee, and Unwordly

Recently, my role play character took a turn for the worse.  My character is having an identity crisis as the one host splits into two hosts; the original host Salvatore and another more sinister and much darker host Sindee.  Sindee is the part of Salvatore that spent most of the time as Jyorogumo, the Oni spider demon, in Japan.  It is why she speaks Japanese.  At times when she is present, she will start speaking in Japanese whatever it is she wants to

Just some random stuff

So I’ve had many a discussion with various content creators about a store card system.  What is an alternative? Ideas got tossed and then there was the idea of using an LSL script to put in a prim near the item for sale and have the prim textured to say, “BUY AS GIFT” (or something similar). How could that script get the user to load XstreetSL in their browser. With Cassie I wrote this short LSL script to have a box, when rezzed, thank the user for their purchase, offer up a website link in a blue dialogue box, and then delete the box. I thought it might be easiest for my customers (and it was). I love to write

tips and tricks | re-render stuff

You know when you arrived somewhere and everything is grey? Or when you are waiting forever a texture to load and it just won’t? Hyang Zhao showed me one of Emerald viewer features that I wasn’t aware of. It’s on the features pages but I didn’t read it even once. (I never read manuals anyway…) dd: changes your draw distance (the distance you can see) Just type in chat dd 0. Your draw distance was set to zero (0). Now, type dd 128 and your draw distance will go back to 128 m. All I can say is that this was the best thing ever I’ve learned lately inSL. Digg...

Some of you may or may not know who Sue Stonebender is, I’ve only met her twice in Second Life thru invitations to parties, what I have learned about her is she is kind, creative, generous and fun. House of Serendipity. Sue sent out a message to her group asking only that they pass this on and go vote. Transaction History Page Changes

If you have scripts that fetch data from your L$ transaction history, you should be aware of two coming changes.  First, the URL has changed and will support new data-fetching features.  The new URL is: https://secondlife.com/my/account/download_transactions.php.  If you are currently using the old URL, you'll notice that your queries are automatically being re-directed to the new URL.

Second, the format of our transaction IDs are changing: the new transaction IDs will be UUIDs instead of integers. (e.g 9324a224-0cc6-1ab2-d691-da2d9d0dee6f instead of 1938866219).  To get a preview of the new transaction ID format, you can use: https://secondlife.com/my/account/download_transactions.php?uuid=yes.

These are fairly minor changes, and we don't expect the script modifications required to use them to be too substantial.
