Joie de vivre

“When I was an art student.” It almost has a self-serving ring to it. But, at one time, I was indeed an art student. I studied art. I painted. I cleaned my brushes with my hands and got cerulean blue on my Big Macs and fries. But even way back then, it was more about appreciating the moment I was in, than any art I was creating. And looking back even further than that, even when I was a teeny tiny lil Wyatt, it’s always been about enjoying the hell outta every moment I can.

But hey, you can’t ...

SOME KILL BILL FUN!

Do the Right Thang

Now that the 2009 Tour de France is over, there is almost no need at all to watch TV, methinks. Nah. What ya really need to do is kick it back a notch, relax and listen to some tunes, maybe. And why not kick it in clothes that are made for doing just that? Here’s something I slogged together from the huge pile o’ clothes in my virtual closet.

Well, it really isn’t a closet. After all, the abandoned train station I live in doesn’t have a closet. Anyway, this is an outfit that basically says to the world: I don’t ...

SERIAL ROLEPLAYING CRIMES!!!!

Hellos everyone in bloggerland! Well I know it's been a while since I wrote a blog, but I really thought I would put one out and possibly start a new blog series. I really want to discuss different things I have seen in SL and give a no-holds-barred personal opinion on them...so here we go...

With sl..alot of people get into relationships...sl is a hot bed of eharmony activity...I have never fully experienced this cause I was in my relationship before sl..and then my fiance in real life became my partner on sl....so i have never went through the up and downs of dating someone on the game and the game only...but I have alot of friends that I ...

Put. That coffee. Down.

Coffee is for closers only. Do I have your attention now? So, I begin this missive with a little advice from Mr. Blake. From the home office. For those of you who need pictures to get the picture, here is an all-business, no business-at-all outfit for the well-heeled, Southern Gentleman.

It’s the kind of an outfit that an old money guy like yourself might wear on a pleasant Sunday afternoon. Suit from Casa Del Shai.

You think I'm messing with ...

Summer Shirts

Heya. How's yer summer goin? I haven't been dropping by my old virtual neighborhood lately, 'cept just to check on the property. As a landowner, you owe it to yourself and your neighbors to see to it that any structures on your parcel are well maintained, and that the surrounding environs are "policed up," as we used to say in the Airborne Rangers. Besides, I do have to make sure my cat has plenty of food and is feeling well. She loves it when I visit. And I love her.

Oh. The clothes. The style stuff. The fashion. Not much to report, 'cept here are two shirts for you to check out. The first is called Naoya, from ...

NOH8 SL: My Civic Duty

I considered it my civic SL duty to particpate in the NOH8 SL™ campaign. What Is NOH8 SL? It's a photography project started by Trace Osterham in Second Life, in support of Adam Bouska’s real life anti-Proposition 8 campaign. Photos of nearly 350 avatars have been taken for the cause, and are being shown at an in-world gallery.

Trace took the photo above shortly after the campaign went viral. You can see it on flickr, here. Feel free to favorite the livin bejeesus out

HTTP-In and LSL Communications

With Second Life Server 1.27 just around the corner I thought I should take a moment to share some information on one of the key features it will bring: HTTP-In.  HTTP-In is the code name for a set of LSL scripting functions and event changes that allow LSL scripts to become miniature web servers.  If you want to drill down into the real gory details check out this wiki page and this jira or jump straight to some examples.

What is it?At its heart this is the long desired counterpart to llHTTPRequest.  While llHTTPRequest allows LSL scripts to fetch data from external web servers, http_request allows LSL scripts

Lawless, Where Are You?

So once again, I haven't posted in awhile. But yesterday, to celebrate my nation-state's birthday, I managed to get a little drunk and log in to Second Life to celebrate. I hung out with some peeps I know, listened to some good tunes, got drunker, said stupid things, listened to others say stupid things, drifted into meaninglessness, almost passed out. I tried to take some snapshots of the goings on, but my resolution is set so high, almost every time I tried, my viewer application crashed. The idiotic shot above was one of the ones that survived, and I laid it over a ...

A Zindra Update: More Land on the way!

First of all a big thanks to those residents who have already filed move request tickets; since the doors opened we have had 700 requests for a move to Zindra and have been working hard to process those as fast as we can. In light of the feedback we've had so far we're going to be making some changes.

The parcel sizes being requested have been larger than expected and many of you have specifically requested coastline, so we have decided to open up more of the Zindra landmass, earlier than planned. Later today there will be an area opening up to the East of the existing Zindra regions and over the next few days another area to

Interpreting statistics in your favour – Second Stindberg boosted Snowglobe success

Today, Philip Linden posted a nifty little graph showing how many users use the Snowglobe viewer - a project initiated by him.

On June 23 I blogged about the Snowglobe viewer and announced it on Plurk - now look closely at that graph. Doesn't it make a significant jump from the 23rd on?

Truth to be told, on June 24 there was the official announcement of version 1.0 on the Second Life blog. And as much as I like the idea that my blogpost and Plurk had a little to with that ...

A status update on group chat

Since Residents are continuing to experience a lot of pain around group chat, I wanted to post an update on the status of our investigations.

We have looked in more detail at the fix that I mentioned in my last blog posting. This will be deployed to the grid in release 1.27 of our server code later this month. We compared it with the current release on the grid, which is 1.26, and with 1.25, the prior release from a few months ago.

If we look at the successful message delivery rate in 1.25 as the baseline, and assign it the number 1.0, that delivery rate dropped to 0.32 in our current 1.26 release. This is clearly
